The purpose of this study is to evaluate the yield response and return on investment provided from applying fungicide at the R1 growth stage on multiple hybrids.

2018 Ohio Corn Fungicide Study - Hybrid Response

This year, we observed minimal disease pressure at the time of our fungicide application through early grain fill period, resulting in low responses to fungicide applications. The exception to this trend was with XL® 6082AM™*brand, a hybrid which has a slightly lower tolerance to Northern corn leaf blight, which moved into this plot during the late grain fill period. In this study, XL® 6082AM™*brand was the last hybrid to pollinate, meaning that it had more grain fill to complete after being infected t han the other hybrids tested. When making fungicide decisions, it’s important to assess both hybrid characteristics and the timing of infections compared to growth stages in order to predict whether or not it will be profitable.
