The purpose of this study is to evaluate fertilizer placements made with the Conceal™ and FurrowJet® systems at planting to determine their impact on yield and profitability.

2018 Multi-Location Corn Starter Fertilizer Systems Study - Conceal™ and FurrowJet®

In 2017 we saw promising results with the FurrowJet® system and with applying a higher rate of nitrogen (N) on both sides of the row with a 2x2x2 system. This year, we wanted to test these systems side-by-side. Over the last two years, using the 2x2x2 system to apply a higher rate of N early on has worked well. It’s important to note that we are still using the same total rate of N, just shifting some from sidedress to the 2x2x2 application. This ensures that the corn has enough N to get off to a good start and carry it until the V3 growth stage. This year, the data appears to indicate that the Conceal™ system provided the largest yield gain. The lower return on investment from the FurrowJet treatment could be a result of the outstanding growing season and the typically high fertility levels at many of our PFR sites.
