The purpose of this study is to evaluate various soybean planting populations, planted in 30 in. rows, to determine the Economic Optimum Seeding Rate (EOSR).

Optimum planting population is a function of many factors including planting date, percent emergence, soil type and row width. Both geographic location and planting date can have a great impact on the number of nodes per plant. Our PFR research indicates that the optimum soybean planting population increases as we move further north or when planting is delayed. Our first-year data from the Minnesota PFR site confirms this as our optimum seeding rate was 175,000 plants/A.
