The purpose of this study is to evaluate the yield and profitability of various fungicides and insecticides when applied in-furrow.

2018 Kentucky Corn Fungicide and Insecticide Study - In-Furrow

All of Beck’s corn comes treated with Beck’s Escalate® yield enhancement system, which includes two insecticides and five fungicides. In this study, we wanted to determine if it’s beneficial to apply an additional fungicide and insecticide in-furrow. The data is somewhat mixed as several of the treatments showed a response in one hybrid, but not the other. Overall, on the two-hybrid average, none of the treatments tested provided a positive response this year. However, this study was planted on May 2, 2018 into a non-stressful environment. When planting seed with a superior seed treatment like Escalate into non-stressed conditions, it’s typically not necessary to include an extra fungicide or insecticide. If this plot had been planted in early April, when soil temperatures were still in the low- to mid-50s, in-furrow applications may have proved beneficial.
