The purpose of this study is to evaluate different populations in a double crop system to determine the Economic Optimum Seeding Rate (EOSR).

In a double crop scenario, we typically recommend higher populations to compensate for the shorter season the plants will have to create pods that contribute to yield. Because flowering starts soon after vegetative growth begins, the increased plant competition is an attempt to get more vegetative growth before flowering in order to get initial pod set higher off the ground. In first crop soybeans, we rely on branching. Here, however, we have to rely on overall plant number.
