Does placement of soil applied fungicide have an effect on corn yield?

2017 Multi-Location Corn Fungicide Placement Study - FurrowJet™

The purpose of this study is to utilize Precision Planting’s FurrowJet attachments to apply starter fertilizers through the wings and various fungicide products through the center that are not compatible through a single in-furrow application, in an attempt to increase yield and profitability.

Of the three treatments tested in 2017, none of them significantly impacted our overall Net Effective Plant Stand (NEPS) or final population. One thing our PFF team did observe this year was more consistent, positive yield results with the hybrids that tend to emerge faster. We believe that the faster emerging hybrids were able to more quickly establish a root system, leading to more rapid fungicide uptake and a shorter window of vulnerability to soilborne pathogens. However, the situations where these types of treatments tend to provide more consistency is when they are placed in wetter soil environments or on products more susceptible to post-emerge dampening off.
