2016 Southern Illinois Corn Nitrogen Management Study - 360 SOILSCAN™ vs. PSNT

Can we utilize this technology to help determine the most profitable nitrogen management plan?

The results from this study indicate that answer is yes.

In this study, we applied 30 units of N with the planter and sidedressed 60 units of N at the V3 growth stage. The remaining N was 360 Y-DROP® applied at V14, changing the rates based off of the results of either a pre-sidedress soil nitrate test (PSNT) or a 360 SOILSCAN™ machine.

We compared those results to a 360 Y-DROP application at V14 with 100 units of N and the PFR standard practice as the control with 30 units of N 2x2 followed by 160 units at V3.

All systems outyielded the PFR standard practice, however, the PSNT program proved to be the most profitable. We decreased our total cost of N and achieved our highest yields, making the PSNT recommendation by far the most profitable.
