2-YEAR MULTI-LOCATION STARTER FERTILIZER RETURN ON INVESTMENT

This two-year study reflects what a lot of farmers experience year-to-year: sometimes a starter pays and sometimes it doesn’t. The plants were taller and leaves were greener, but that doesn’t always equate to enough increased yield to pay for itself. Soil conditions at planting time, rainfall, and temperature all vary from one spring to another so these results don’t surprise me. Three of the products we tested over both years showed a positive return on investment, but there was still variability year-to-year. No-till or minimum-till, and clay or sandy soils will increase the likelihood of a positive return for a starter product.
