Row Width And Population Study

2021 Southern Illinois Wheat Row Width And Population Study

  • Southern IL

The purpose of this study is to evaluate various row spacings and populations to determine which system provides the highest return on investment per acre.

2021 RESULTS

2-YEAR ROW WIDTH AND POPULATION NET RETURN

OBSERVATION

As a result of the dry conditions post-harvest, we planted this study into a thick soybean residue mat. The 15 in. wheat yielded better overall, but the population portion of this study showed that lower populations were more successful in 2021. Our two-year data shows that 1,050,000 seeds/A. is the optimum population for drilled wheat and 700,000 seeds/A. is ideal for 15 in. wheat.
