The purpose of this study is to compare multiple rates of foliar-applied sugar applications, made at the R1 growth stage, to determine their impact on yield and profitability.

OBSERVATION

When we think about our in-furrow sugar studies in corn and soybeans, we typically think about stimulating the microbial activity. While that can be a result, foliar applications are generally made in an effort to utilize the carbon component of the sugar molecule to aid in photosynthesis. Results from this study show that the 4 lb./A. rate is all that was needed to gain the yield bump we were looking for. This may be because there is only so much sugar that we can get into the plant with any single application. The simplicity and cost of 4 lb./A. of Feed Grade Dextrose added to an application makes this a great treatment to try with little risk of a negative return on investment.
