Should a grower band or broadcast fertilizer applications? In this new Practical Farm Research (PFR) study, phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) fertilizers are being put to the test in various rates and tillage practices, in both broadcast and banded applications. Phosphorus is being applied in the form of monoammonium phosphate and potassium is applied in the form of potash. The three tillage practices this study is performed on include: no-till, strip-till, and conventional-till field conditions.
Soil microbial health has been a hot agronomic topic of discussion lately. What can we learn and implement from sampling the microbial communities of our soils? Deatra Gremaux, the Practical Farm Research Data and Logistics Manager, from Beck’s Hybrids is working with Casey McGuire, Regional Pattern Ag Manager, to uncover the answers to that very question.
With warming trends sweeping across the Corn Belt region, our corn crop is growing rapidly as we accumulate heat units. This means in-season nitrogen management decisions are upon us or quickly approaching. In our Practical Farm Research (PFR) department, we have found the most effective way to supply our corn crop with adequate nitrogen in season is through a sidedress application.
Clayton Stufflebeam, Practical Farm Research (PFR) Location Lead from the El Paso, IL, location takes a minute to explain our Closing Wheel Systems Study before testing the closing wheels.
Are you curious about what pressure setting you should be using on your row cleaners? We are hoping to help better answer that question with our PFR Row Cleaner studies.
Every year, Beck’s Practical Farm Research (PFR)® team tests new products, practices, and equipment to help farmers make better decisions and improve profitability. Two new products that PFR is testing in 2020 are Pivot Bio PROVEN™ and Envita™ from Azotic North America.
Figuring out what soybean herbicide programs will work best for all the different trait platforms on the market can be difficult and confusing at times. Join Camille Lambert, Field Sales Agronomist, and Austin Scott, Area Team Leader (ATL) and Herbicide Specialist as they preview the herbicide trials Beck’s Hybrids’ Practical Farm Research (PFR)® locations are performing to make weed management and herbicide programs easier to understand!

Southern Illinois Practical Farm Research (PFR) Technician and Herbicide Specialist, Joe Bolte, has pre-emergent herbicide management tips to mitigate pesky weeds like marestail, morning glory, cocklebur, waterhemp, giant ragweed, pigweed, lambsquarter, velvetleaf, and foxtails.
Join Camille Lambert, Beck’s Hybrids’ Kentucky Agronomist, and Brandon Somers, Henderson, KY, Practical Farm Research (PFR) Location Lead, to review best management practices for spring anhydrous ammonia applications this 2020 planting season.
Uniformity and consistency are two terms we often heard when farmers describe their ideal field with a “picket-fence” stand crop. These types of stands go hand-in-hand with high yields. However, this is potentially the most difficult objective to achieve.
So, we posed the question, “how can we obtain this desired uniformity?”
This latest PFR Report features Jared Chester, PFR Lead at our London, OH facility discussing our recent downforce study using DeltaForce® from Precision Planting.
This latest PFR Report features Clayton Stufflebeam, PFR Location Lead at our Central Illinois PFR discussing how to get your corn planter dialed in for #plant2020. Clayton spends time discussing how to index your planter and the importance of doing so.

Cycles of precipitation, along with freezing and thawing in the Midwest, made fall field a challenge to say the least. For areas that primarily use anhydrous ammonia, this may be especially true with the increase in annual precipitation that we have experienced in the Corn Belt. Beck’s Practical Farm Research (PFR)® team has been conducting research on different nitrogen management products and practices to help farmers make decisions and analyze various options to maximize their ROI.
