Should a grower band or broadcast fertilizer applications? In this new Practical Farm Research (PFR) study, phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) fertilizers are being put to the test in various rates and tillage practices, in both broadcast and banded applications. Phosphorus is being applied in the form of monoammonium phosphate and potassium is applied in the form of potash. The three tillage practices this study is performed on include: no-till, strip-till, and conventional-till field conditions.
Soil microbial health has been a hot agronomic topic of discussion lately. What can we learn and implement from sampling the microbial communities of our soils? Deatra Gremaux, the Practical Farm Research Data and Logistics Manager, from Beck’s Hybrids is working with Casey McGuire, Regional Pattern Ag Manager, to uncover the answers to that very question.
With warming trends sweeping across the Corn Belt region, our corn crop is growing rapidly as we accumulate heat units. This means in-season nitrogen management decisions are upon us or quickly approaching. In our Practical Farm Research (PFR) department, we have found the most effective way to supply our corn crop with adequate nitrogen in season is through a sidedress application.
Clayton Stufflebeam, Practical Farm Research (PFR) Location Lead from the El Paso, IL, location takes a minute to explain our Closing Wheel Systems Study before testing the closing wheels.

Uniformity and consistency are two terms we often heard when farmers describe their ideal field with a “picket-fence” stand crop. These types of stands go hand-in-hand with high yields. However, this is potentially the most difficult objective to achieve.
So, we posed the question, “how can we obtain this desired uniformity?”
