Beck's Blog

From Our Family Farm to Yours

Intern Avenue

Home Sweet Home

They say time flies when you are having fun! I can’t believe how fast this summer has been going. Today I complete my sixth week interning at Beck’s, and I only have seven weeks left. Almost half way done…yikes! Before I know it I will be hitting the library and books for one last semester in Bloomington.

As I reflect back on the past few weeks, I realize how comfortable I’ve become here at Beck’s. Atlanta, IN is starting to feel more and more like home, and I can honestly say it’s because of the people I work with.

Our internship house is finally feeling like home. We added hanging baskets for a finishing touch.

As I stated in my previous blog, everyone at Beck’s is truly interested in and wants to learn about us as individuals. They go above and beyond in supporting my growth and knowledge, and are more than willing to give me constructive criticism, answer questions, and also offer career advice. It is truly inspiring how supportive and welcoming the whole family of employees are. And everyone is definitely like a family here.

The employees also know how to have fun. Last Friday, the whole Marketing Department was required to attend a “team building” event outside of the office at an unknown location. I soon found out “team building” was actually a surprise baby shower for two expecting dads on the creative team, Zach and Joel.

Zach and Joel practicing how to change a diaper before the babies arrive.

The shower had food and games, and mounds of diapers for their new babies, of course. The best part was that neither Joel nor Zach had any idea about the shower. They were so surprised that “team building” was actually a shower. Even their wives had them fooled.

In my time here, I've realized that being part of the Beck’s family doesn’t just mean being a good coworker or being helpful at work. It goes beyond that. Being part of the Beck’s family means you are loyal, supportive and helpful whenever and wherever you can be.

Last week, I had the opportunity to interview a dealer from Indiana for one of our print advertisements. He mentioned that a lot of companies have good products, and so does Beck’s, but what sets Beck’s apart is their service and their people.

I have been fortunate enough to experience the quality people. And I truly believe that is what sets Beck’s apart from other companies. It’s their people that make a difference.

I think that when you’re able to come together as a team, you're able to get to know one another beyond the work you do together. When people reach out to one another, they feel important, which helps employees work more efficiently and stick with the company.

I have experienced this personally, and in the short amount of time I have been here, I have started to feel like part of the family too.
