Here's to the Farmer

Published on Friday, July 28, 2017

Last week, I had the opportunity to help with Beck’s PFR University. For those of you that don’t know, PFR University is a unique opportunity for farmers to visit Beck’s headquarters and spend two days learning and gaining additional PFR insights on new products and practices that they can then implement on their own farms.

While helping out during this event, one farmer asked me how my summer was going. Then he asked me, “what has been the most rewarding part of your internship so far.” I was kind of taken back by this question because it feels like I just started at Beck’s, even though I have been here for 11 weeks now.

It took me awhile to answer his question, but I finally told him, “helping honor the American farmer, and learning about a new industry has been the most rewarding part of my internship so far.”

This summer, I was able to watch Natalina Sents finish up the Beck’s Why I Farm Roadtrip. She recently finished visiting all 50 states and writing over 100 blogs about farmers throughout the country. As I edited the photographs for her blogs, it was eye opening how dedicated farmers are to agriculture, and how passionate they are about fueling the country with healthy and safe foods for you and me to enjoy.

One of my favorite quotes from a previous Why I Farm video.

Some days, I gather or transcribe testimonials about Beck’s products and services from farmers. I love listening to farmers tell stories about how Beck’s has helped them on their farm outside of just selling them a high-yielding product. It’s refreshing to know that I’m working for a company that truly helps farmers succeed, and the Beck family and family of employees truly embody that concept.

I have found that over these last 11 weeks, I have become more aware and more appreciative of those who put food on my table than I ever was before. I recently read that a mere 1.5 percent of the population somehow manages to feed 300 million people three times a day. That’s a number I can’t even fathom, and makes me realize how blessed we truly are to have these dedicated individuals. I even notice myself paying attention to the crops as I drive down the dirt backroads that take me home on the weekends.

Thanks to my fellow intern, Clayton for letting me use this gorgeous shot of a Beck’s plot!

This summer I have learned a lot, from creating digital ads to creating social media campaigns, but the most important thing I learned was how vital agriculture truly is in this country.

This is my thank you to all farmers out there, I appreciate what you do each and every day!
