CropTalk: Ready, Set, GO... Make a Difference

May 2022

Passion alone sparks energy. Passions, when combined, make change. Beck’s Annual 5K is an event that was started by passionate people.

People passionate about health. People passionate about serving others. People passionate about creating community.

And what started Beck’s 5K? A passionate conversation. In 2019, Laura McKee, Benefits Specialist, and Jeff Mann, Grounds Keeping Manager, discussed the growing number of employees who share their passion for running. They were excited about the idea of hosting a 5K event and how it would be a great way to build relationships among employees, dealers, and the community, while also promoting health and wellness.

With the blessing and support of the Beck family, their dream became a reality. A few months later, a 5K committee was formed. Composed of a handful of Beck’s employees from all different departments, the team behind the event all share a similar passion: health and helping others. Each committee member has a different “why,” but Beck’s 5K is a perfect opportunity to unite the passion that brought everyone together in the first place.

The first Beck’s 5K set off in 2020 and has grown tremendously since then in both support and involvement. “The Beck family supported the idea of the proceeds from our inaugural event to benefit Rock Steady Boxing,” Laura shared. “The fact that the proceeds from our first year could benefit a program that has been so important to my father in his fight against Parkinson’s filled me with gratitude and an even greater drive to make sure the event was a success for years to come.”

The charitable recipient is voted on by employees and changes each year. Since the inaugural 5K in 2020, nearly $60,000 in proceeds have been raised to support organizations like Rock Steady Boxing and the American Institute for Cancer Research.

For 2022, Beck’s is proud to support Team Rubicon, an organization that serves communities by mobilizing veterans to continue their service, leveraging their skills and experience to help people prepare, respond, and recover from disasters and humanitarian crises. “Team Rubicon is incredibly grateful for Beck’s support,” said EB Stafford, Strategic Partnerships Officer at Team Rubicon. “We will maximize the power and reach of Beck’s investment by continuing to drive impact and serve vulnerable communities in Indiana, the United States, and across the globe.”

For the third year, Beck’s will once again partner with Changing Footprints to host a shoe drive collecting previously worn or new shoes for distribution to homeless, disaster-stricken, and underprivileged individuals within our community.

But Beck’s 5K Run/Walk isn’t just a race. It’s a celebration. It’s a time for Beck’s employees, their families, customers, dealers, and the community to join together in health, fun, and fellowship. Enjoy vendor booths, great music, and delicious food from a local-favorite food truck following the race.

You can participate in person at our headquarters in Atlanta, IN, join our offsite team in Paris, IL, or join us virtually! A Kids Fun Run will take place following the main event.
