Grandfather always said, “Keeping it short, simple, and to the point equals power in preaching and conversation.” His rule of thumb and advice for me as a preacher: 20 minutes or less.
He attended our church, and if I was running longer than 20 minutes, I just did not look his way. He has since gone on to be with the Lord, but his wisdom shared is still with me today. God’s Word to us, through the apostle Paul, needs no elaborate explanation, just simple obedience.
Rejoice, pray, give thanks... for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (I Thess. 5:18b)
Here’s hoping to make this Thanksgiving, and the year ahead, a little less complicated. For those of you who may be wondering… I fail more times than not to be within 20 minutes. Sorry Papaw. :)
Blessings of thanks to you and yours!
