Innovative. Comprehensive. Practical. Proven. All concepts that describe the content in the 2020 PFR Book — coming soon online and to a mailbox near you — plus the upcoming 2021 virtual PFR Insight meetings. Jam-packed with more data-driven decision-making information than ever, the 2020 PFR Book will include harvest results and observations from six PFR sites and three cooperator locations. Our 2021 PFR Insight Meeting content will be focused on what in-season management products and practices can bring the greatest profitability to the farm.
Beck’s PFR studies have been around since the late 1960s when Sonny Beck arrived back on the family farm and designed test plots. These test plots were constructed to discover agronomic answers to customers’ questions. Just as PFR Insight Meetings have evolved from the ‘Ham and Bean Supper’ winter meetings, PFR studies continue to advance. New technologies, products, and practices are continuously analyzed in PFR to help farmers decide what decisions to invest in on their farms.
New PFR Studies
PFR believes in the power of multi-location replicated data, which is why a product or practice could be tested for three more years to obtain the PFR Proven™ status. PFR Proven status is granted when a product or practice has provided a positive yield increase during three or more years of testing and averages a positive return on investment (products only) during that time. Each year, PFR studies are a mix of continuous studies with new studies! Check out the new studies and section for the 2020 PFR Book.
Organic Corn and Soybean Trials
As organic corn and soybean markets continue to gain momentum, PFR has expanded the number of organic trials being conducted. Last year was the first year we conducted an organic product study. It tested products from BRANDT® and Marrone® Bio Innovations. Along with the organic product study, organic nitrogen management and organic transition studies were also tested this year.
Biological Product Plots
Pivot Bio PROVEN®, SOURCE™ from Sound Agriculture, and Envita™ from Azotic North America are three products that deal with unlocking the potential of the biological environment. These products claim to enhance plant and/or soil nutrient cycles to increase yields.
Are automatic or manual FurrowForce settings more beneficial to an operation? This study was implemented on corn and soybeans at 0 lb., 60 lb., 120 lb., and fully automated FurrowForce settings.
Weed Management Section
To help farmers navigate the waters of herbicide management, this new section has been added to the PFR book. Helping farmers succeed by starting their season with clean fields is a key factor for successful weed management. Information on chemical, biological, and cultural weed management with Beck’s various trait platform options is included in this section.
PFR Insight Meetings: All New Virtual Format
In addition to some of the new PFR studies, the concepts of planting population vs. nitrogen rate and profitable fungicide passes are also points of discussion at the winter 2021 Insight meetings. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are bringing 2021 PFR Insight meetings to you virtually — in the comfort of your own home! In addition to some of the new PFR studies, the concepts of planting population vs. nitrogen rate and profitable fungicide passes are also points of discussion at the winter 2021 Insight meetings.
