Generation Farmer Part 2

Agronomy Update

Published on Thursday, April 29, 2021

Dale Viktora, Beck’s Hybrids Field Sales Agronomist, gives an update on corn and soybean planting for the second edition of the Beck’s Generation Farmer series.

In this video Dale highlights dry seedbed soil considerations:

  • Optimize planting depth for soybeans (1.5 inch range target)
    • For nodulation development
    • To chase soil moisture line
  • Early planting benefits
    • More sunlight capture in the vegetative stages
    • More nodes = more pods = more yield (for soybeans)
  • Pre-emergent chemistry applications
    • Stick with plan
    • #1 tool for tough-to-control weeds
    • Multiple Modes of Action (MOAs)
    • Will have around 28-30 days of activity with these applications
  • Nutrient management programs
    • Soil mineralization (temperature & moisture)
    • Make sidedress applications earlier (target @ V3 for corn)

Stay tuned for the next edition of the Beck’s Generation Farmer series!
