Early Spring Crop Scouting Tips

Field scouting has become a favorite topic of mine because it pays big dividends during the early stand establishment period. Crop scouting should be done as religiously as machine preparation. Checking your fields should be as routine as daily routine machinery checks prior to operation. Diagnosing and treating crop problems before they manifest themselves is crucial to profitability. Here are a few things to scout for in the very early periods of corn and soybean growth when there are skips in the row where plants fail to emerge, uneven stands or discolored plants.   Continue article...
