2017 Ohio Corn Closing Wheel Study

The purpose of this study is to determine what effect different closing wheel types have on plant emergence and yield. Unfavorable planting conditions were targeted in this study.

OBSERVATION

When canopy coverage ratings were collected at the V5 growth stage, the treatments with the greatest canopy coverage correlated to those with the greatest yield gains. These same treatments also aligned with the most optimal seed-to-soil contact at planting, resulting in quicker stand establishment.
