2017 Ohio Corn Planting Date Study
The purpose of this study is to determine the optimum planting date window by planting on multiple dates throughout the growing season.
This season, the weather turned cool and wet the second half of April with four nights hitting temperatures below 45°F. Because of this, the greatest yield observed was between the May 1 to May 15 planting window. Emergence was measured during our ideal planting window of April 26 and our latest planting window of June 15. When we compared the emergence of these two planting dates, we found that the penalty for uneven emergence was much more severe with the later planting dates.
