Planting Date Study

2017 Central Illinois Soybean Planting Date Study

  • Central IL

The purpose of this study is to determine the optimum planting date window by planting multiple dates throughout the growing season.

OBSERVATION

We have observed April to be the best window for planting soybeans at the Central Illinois PFR site. However, this year we accumulated 4.18 in. of rain in April and had an average low temperature of 47.5°F, with six days reaching temperatures below 40°F. These challenging conditions led to May 9 being the best soybean planting date at this site in 2017.
