Starter Fertilizer Study

2017 Kentucky Soybean Starter Fertilizer Study

  • Kentucky

The purpose of this study is to evaluate various soybean starter fertilizers, applied in-furrow, and their effects on yield and profitability.

OBSERVATION

When we think of starter fertilizers, we think of their ability to increase plant health early in the season. This plot was planted on June 2 and was up and out of the ground quickly. Starters did not impact emergence in this case and, in the end, they did not impact yield. With a later planting date leading to quick, uniform emergence in a field with high yield potential, it isn’t surprising that yield gains were negligible in this study.
