Pivotal Month for Corn and Soybean Development

Published on Wednesday, August 31, 2016

August is a pivotal month for both corn and soybean yield development. The developing plants will need plenty of moisture, moderate temperatures, and adequate nutrient translocation to maximize the number, size, and weight of developing kernels/seeds. Both crops have passed any “compensating” ability, so any stress that occurs now into September will reduce yield. Make sure to continue scouting your fields. Keep an eye on the condition of the stalks and roots. This is a great time to assess effects of soil compaction in both surface and subsurface areas. Are your plants showing any late-season disease or insect issues?

This pre-harvest period also offers quality time to attend our annual Becknology™ Days event. It is a great learning experience and provides social networking opportunities with other Midwest farmers. We’re looking forward to being your preferred seed supplier for 2017! Thanks for your confidence and support of Beck’s
