Using Liberty® Herbicide on LibertyLink® Soybeans

Published on Wednesday, June 22, 2016

In most cases, the more you do something the better you become at it. Here are some things we have learned the more we have used Liberty® herbicide on LibertyLink® soybeans.

Coverage is king – 15 gal. of water is ok with weeds smaller than 3 in. Bigger weeds really need 20 gal. of water, especially if weeds are dense or grasses are the primary target. The current label rate is 29 or 36 oz. with a limit of 65 oz. total. Make sure to follow the label and stay away from the old rate of 22 oz. I know most of you have hard water and are using ammonium sulfate (AMS). It’s absolutely essential with Liberty herbicide if you want the best weed control. I like to use the maximum 3 lb. even though it will sometimes yellow the soybeans.

Residual herbicides are recommended in any soybean herbicide system to add modes of action. I definitely like them in the burndown, but if you work your ground you should include a residual herbicide with your first application of Liberty. You will thank me when making (or not making) your second application. For more specific recommendations and hints for using this system, feel free to contact me.
