Western Bean Cutworm Traps
Western bean cutworm is a pest of dry beans and corn. It used to be a corn pest primarily in the western corn belt but has moved eastward in recent years and is more common in the eastern corn belt. Within the five states that Beck’s Hybrids markets seed, it is established across northern Illinois, northern Indiana and into central Ohio.
The objective of this project is to provide documentation of the numbers of western bean cutworm moths present during 2011. We want to help farmers determine if control measures are necessary this summer or if they can select corn hybrids next year that will provide in-plant protection from the potential devastation of the western bean cutworm.
