2010 Beck's Beyond the Fence Award Winners

 

Beck’s Hybrids has teamed up with the Indiana Soybean Alliance and the Indiana Corn Growers Association to honor outstanding individuals in agriculture. These organizations recently awarded five individuals for their outstanding service and contributions to Indiana agriculture and their community. These individuals were recognized at the Livestock, Grain and Forage Forum in Indianapolis.

  • Beck’s Friend of Indiana Agriculture Award honors an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to Indiana agriculture but is not directly involved in production agriculture. Beth Archer is the 2011 recipient of the Beck’s Friend of Indiana Agriculture Award. Beth is the director of the Indiana AgrIInstitute, and built her career on identifying potential leaders for the industry and pushing them forward to achieve success personally and professionally. She has touched the lives of many within the agriculture community and she is universally regarded as a person of influence and integrity.
  • Beck’s Agricultural Education Outreach Award honors someone who has made outstanding contributions to Indiana agriculture through their role in Indiana agricultural education. Dr. Robert Taylor is the 2011 recipient of the Beck’s Agricultural Education Outreach Award. Dr. Taylor has tirelessly educated future agricultural leaders for the past 50 years as a professor in Agricultural Economics at Purdue and as an Extension Specialist focusing on farm family success and organization. Many of Indiana’s agricultural leaders trace their roots back to his courses. Dr. Taylor is known by farm families across the state to be a great source of knowledge and wisdom in addition to being a caring and compassionate person who can help them address some of their toughest issues.

  • Beck’s Community Betterment Award honors a farmer who has made outstanding philanthropic contributions to Indiana communities. Jim Moseley is the 2011 recipient of the Beck’s Community Betterment Award. Jim has given tirelessly of his time so that others may see a brighter tomorrow. His work with the Indiana National Guard Agribusiness Development Team has prepared the group for an agricultural mission to Afghanistan. He invited over 15 National Guardsmen to his farm to learn about the agriculture industry and how they can implement plans to develop agribusiness abroad. Jim continues to correspond with the National Agribusiness Development Team on a regular basis, providing valuable insight and a friendly reminder of the great State of Indiana.
  • Beck’s Farmer Neighbor and Urban Relations Award honors an Indiana farmer who has contributed to improving neighbor relations and educating neighbors about modern agricultural practices. Joyce Peden is the 2011 recipient of the Beck’s Farmer Neighbor and Urban Relations Award. Joyce and her family host approximately 2500 elementary school children and teachers to their farm each spring. This provides an opportunity for individuals to visit a working farm and gain a better understanding of the agricultural industry.
  • Beck’s Ag Media Award honors an individual in the media who has achieved excellence in reporting about Indiana agriculture. Dave Russell is the 2011 recipient of the Beck’s Ag Media Award. Dave is a well-known farm broadcaster, public speaker and emcee in Indiana and beyond. His commitment enthusiasm and passion for Indiana agriculture is unprecedented in agricultural media. He has an uncompromising level of integrity and love for the agriculture industry in Indiana.
